Centred around 7 staple pieces, this post reviews items that can be worked and reworked countless amounts of times, without ever losing their je ne sais quoi…
1. The Blazer
A few years ago on a trip to Rome, I purchased a simple navy blazer that sparked my love-affair with this clothing. Ever since, I’ve appreciated the results of the perfect blazer and how it completes each look. Take the most simple of outfits and throw a blazer over the top and you’ve got an effortlessly pulled-together look. Zara is my high-street favourite for blazers. This black one that I got a few years ago is great because I’ve found that it works so well for day and evening! But if black isn’t your colour then a muted tone works just as well without being as harsh! The Jeans
2. The Jeans
Not much need be said about a good pair of jeans, but I often find that an on-trend style of denim is possibly the easiest way to update your wardrobe. We all know that the beauty of denim is that we can wear it on nearly every occasion, so it’s important to invest in a new pair that captures the essence of each season. Mom jeans are so popular right now, and I think they take this look slightly out of the ‘basics’ comfort zone.
3. The White Tee
A simple cotton t-shirt works so well with anything – but don’t forget to keep your whites white!
4. The Ballet Flats
Something my mum has drummed into me is that your shoes must always be comfortable. There’s nothing worse than limping around in a pair of fashionable, but extremely pinching, pointy-toe heels (both for you and everyone watching you). I love this pair as they evoke the classic Chanel flats which I’m dying to splash out on!
5. The Belt
Something I really wanted for my 21st present was a belt. A belt?! Yes. But not just any old belt. This one is a buttery-soft, statement, timeless, marvellously magical piece from Gucci. I find that it gives an instant lift to anything I’ve got on! Definitely worth the investment.
6. The Red Lips
From Hollywood glam to Parisian chic, from Marilyn to Mods, from Victoria Beckham ss16 to Andrea Sachs… No matter where you are or what your style, red lips work.
7. The Sunglasses
Cat-eye sunglasses exude a kind of luxury that I’ve always be drawn to, perhaps it’s something to do with my obsession with 1950s icons. So when I started earning money, I wanted to invest in a pair that would never go out of style. Luxury French label, Dior, stole my heart when they presented classic tortoiseshell cat-eyes with a twist: a streak of pale blue running along the top. I was immediately sold. Two years later and I’m still just as in love with them as I was when I bought them. And guess what… They’ve still not gone out of style!
