Philippe Stark’s Collaboration with Flip-Flop Brand, Ipanema
What do you get when you combine an iconic Brazilian flip-flop brand with an internationally acclaimed interior designer? The answer, of course, needs no explanation when you get a look at Ipanema’s latest collection with French designer Philippe Starck. Elegant, modern and durable, the six styles which Starck designed are made to seem one with the body, using a technical approach to how we work as humans in order to create maximum comfort in the shoes.
The soft straps and hard wearing soles of the flip-flops mean you can take them from a day at the pool, to afternoon drinks, right through to dinner by the sea while still being stylish and comfortable. Starck’s website describes the collection as ‘new ergonomics to reconcile optimised comfort and high elegance’, epitomising the sandals as something that is versatile and made to last. The minimal design of the flip-flops encourages customers to wear their pair with every outfit, fitting into whatever occasion you might have on a sunny getaway.
Made out of 100% recyclable materials, Philippe Stark’s approach to design is bionism – a concept that means to be inspired by the organic in order to create technologies better adapted to humans. From designing everyday products like chairs, right through to hotels and mega-yachts, Starck’s expansive CV has now stretched to flip-flops but his concepts and attention to detail still remain. You have only to put on a pair of his latest collection to feel the care and consideration that has gone into designing the product. The vertical straps on the Ting x Thong white sandals in this post flatter the foot, making it seem narrower and slimmer whilst also being a shoe that you can throw on with every outfit.
The launch event at Manchester’s Hervia store (located at 40 Spring Gardens in amongst the city’s most stylish restaurants and bars) saw bloggers, stylists and fashionistas enjoying bespoke cocktails out of plant pots as they chatted about the new collection. Entitled, ‘The Elegance of Less’ the launch invitation summarised the collection which Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley and stylist Martine Alexander chatted about in their talk on the night.
At affordable price points (ranging from £35-£46), the collection is a must-have as we approach the summer months, being a worthwhile investment for future years to come as well. Shop the collection here at Hervia online.
