If it’s one thing I look for when shopping, it’s those items that I know I won’t wear just once. In fact, I’m so meticulous about this that I’ll pick up 20 items in a shop and only leave with one (which is probably a good thing for my bank account!). My mental check list goes something like this: will I wear more than once? Will it go with other items in my wardrobe? Will I be able to dress this up and down? You get the idea.
The knitted polo neck dress has become such a staple in my wardrobe over the past few years, which stands as great testament to its sartorial durability. In college, I had a chunky green cable knit one from Topshop that I wore time and time again, as well as a long beige Zara dress that my grandma no longer wanted (thank you, grandma!).
So yes, the ‘test-of-time-check’ works (tick), but the knitted dress has a few other tricks up its long and cosy sleeves. It goes without saying that this style of dress is irrevocably warm, but its ease-factor is unlike any other. Comfort, for me, it’s an essential component to any outfit and this dress fulfils that wonderful role of being both easy to wear and stylish.
Styling. Heels and tights, bare legs and trainers, boots, dressed up with red lipstick and statement jewellery. This dress, thankfully, can be worn anywhere with a few styling tweaks to make it occasion-appropriate…
So if there’s one thing you need to make an investment of this autumn, it’s the knitted dress – and I promise, you’ll still be wearing it for years to come!
